Typography and lettering are a passion for Barbara Lande, who has extensive training in both fine and graphic arts. Barbara attended Cornell University and later graduated cum laude from the City University of New York with a major in Fine Arts and a minor in Life Sciences. She received her degree in Graphic Design from the California College of Art while working with the renowned Byron J. Macdonald, former scribe to The White House.
Celebrating 30 years as Lande Design Studio, Barbara started her design career at the award-winning Solutions Advertising and Design agency and later headed the design department at EMS, an emergency medicine consulting firm. Barbara’s rebranding helped position EMS as one of the lead West coast firms in the industry.
Barbara, an accomplished designer and lettering artist, leverages her skill in developing identity programs and communication vehicles. Barbara’s work has won design awards including a 2006 Addy, in 2007 five Showcase of Excellence Awards including one gold and two silver medals, and a 2008 International Gold Showcase of Excellence Award. Her work has been selected for publication in the prestigious “Calligrapher’s Engagement Calendar“ and the ”Calendar of Country Knowledge & Extraordinary Americana.” She has written articles for ”Alphabet“ and ”Letter Arts Review.“ Serving as Vice President of Friends of Calligraphy, Barbara also taught the well-received seminar the “Business of Calligraphy” and later served as Publication Director for “Experiment”, an international conference for lettering artists.
